William Preston Sharpe, Sr. was born on May 31, 1850 in Davidson County, North Carolina, USA. His parents were David Stokes Sharpe and Sarah Angeline Young.

He married Mary Balinda Stack on Dec 10, 1872 in Iredell County, North Carolina. William and Mary had the following children:

  1. William Preston Sharpe, Jr. (1879-1953), who married Martha Elizabeth York (1879-1964)
  2. James Wilson Sharpe (1883-1941), who did not marry
  3. John Cleveland Sharpe (1886-1943), who married Polly Iona Van Hoy (1891-1923)
  4. Carl Walter Sharpe (1889-1951), who married Annie Mullis (1895-1963)

William Preston Sharpe, Sr. died on Dec 18, 1920 in Union Grove, Iredell County and is buried at Union Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Iredell County.
