Harvey was my paternal grandfather. I have many of his personal papers and effects. One item of interest is a petition, signed by veterans of the late war (Civil War), that he submitted to the Kansas Governor asking for consideration for an appointment to a military position for the next regiment organized in the state. While is is undated, it named the Governor as Leedy who was Governor from 1897 to 1899 so I date in within that time period. The petition is signed by over 100 veterans of the Civil War. Among the signees I find a JEHU Sharpe and a George Sharpe both vets from Co. M, first Col. Vol. Cav. who I believe are his older brothers.
