Edward was born about 1873. He was a police constable before WW1,stationed at Carlton in 1905. At that time he was living at 124 Lee St, Carlton, VIC, but by 1909 he was living at 18 James St, Northcote where he lived until his death.
He joined the AIF (5th Pioneers, No 347) on 07 Jul 1915. 5 ft 10 in, fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, C of E. Promoted RSM 17 Mar 1916. Volunteered to undertake mustard gas tests in WW1 which severely weakened health. Mentioned in Despatches as a result (mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's despatch 7/11/17 for distinguished & gallant services & devotion to duty in the field.. published in a supplement to the "London Gazette" Friday 28 Dec 1917)
He died at the Exhibition Building, a victim of Great Flu Epidemic of 1919.
His will was valued at 865 Pounds 15 shillings and 6 pence, most of which was his accumulated police pension and a life insurance policy.

Edward William Sharpe, plain clothes police (Carlton), loving brother of the above, aged 45 years. Sister and brother united.[2]
