1851 Census:
The 1851 Census for Boston, Lincolnshire, shows 14 year old Joseph Sharpe in the household of William Harden. Unfortunately the census taker's writing in the relationship column is unclear for Joseph. [1]
1861 Census:
The April 1861 Census shows 24 year old Joseph Sharpe visiting Eliza Glew (his future wife) in Ellison Street, in Thorne. Joseph is a Mariner. They get married a few months after this census.[2]
1861 Marriage:
On July 15th, 1861, Joseph Sharpe marries Eliza Glew at the Parish Church in Goole, York. Joseph is described on the marriage certificate as a 24 year old Batchelor and Sailor. He doesn't know his father so the Father's Occupation and Father's Name are left blank on the certificate. 21 year old Eliza Glew is described as a Spinster, living in Goole. Her father is Thomas Glew, a Laborer. The witnesses are John Kellington, and Martha Ann Hutchinson. [3]

1872 Marriage:
On June 12, 1872, Joseph Sharpe, of full age, a Captain residing at Howden Dike, Howden, York, father unknown, married Clara Brown, also of full age, a Spinster, living in Thorne. Her father is John Brown, a Woolcomber. The marriage certificate witnesses are Henry Brown, and Mary Ann Chepman. [4] There were five children from this marriage:
1881 Census:
The 1881 Census finds Joseph Sharpe is the Mate on the Black Cat moored in Calstock, River Tamar, Cornwall. His 17 year old son, George William Sharpe is with him on the ship.[5]
1909 Death:
Joseph Sharpe passed away on August 30, 1909, while residing at Canterbury Square, in Thorne, Yorkshire. His death was reported by G. W. Sharpe, his son.[6][7]

Joseph Sharpe was buried on 1 September 1909. He had been residing at Canterbury Square, in Thorne, Yorkshire. [8]
