At the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday, Mr. Aldam in the chair, Lucy Emma Nicholson, wife of Thomas Nicholson, labourer, was charged with having stolen a quantity of clothing &c., of value #1 18s., belonging to her husband. Mr. Hall appeared for the complainant, who said on returning from the village reading room on the 11th ult., he found his wife was not at home, and the baby was not there. His other two children were in bed. The lodger had also gone. His wife did not return, and, as he found several of his goods were missing, had a warrant issued for the apprehension of his wife. - The wife denied the insinuation with regard to the lodger, and said when she left her husband she went straight to her mother's at Thorne. Her husband had ill-used her. He tried to shoot her, and tried to cut her throat. - Mr. Hall objected to these statements, and said he had letters from clergyman and others to the effect that the misconduct was the other way about. - The defendant denied having taken anything belonging to her husband ; they were things given to her by her parents before marriage. - The case was dismissed.
