In 1920, Homer G Sharp (28), Head of household and coal mine clerk, was living with his wife Racheal (23), his brother Daniel T Sharp Jr (27), single and steel mill laborer, and sister Elizabeth (14), single and in school, at 257 Spruce Street in Franklin, Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States. [1]
There are two neighboring households of note. Immediately next door at 255 Spruce Street in Franklin, Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States, lived Mary Kerschenstein (50), and three sons Hugh (26), single and a steel mill laborer, John (24), single and a milk hand at the steel mill, and James (17), laborer on a steam railroad. Next to them at R257 Spruce Street was Jessie Thompson Gray (77), head of household widowed and not employed, her daughter Mollie (49), single and a department store sales lady, and granddaughter Mary K Sharp (14), who was attending school and single. The Kerschenstein family were listed in the middle of the Sharp and Gray families, but it is assumed ‘R’ on the census stand for ‘Rear’. [2]
It is believed that at some point John Kerschenstein and Elizabeth became acquainted, unknown if it was a natural progression or arrangement, and were married during 1921 in Cambria.
