Biography

Abner Sharpe was born on 1 Oct 1772 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He died on 10 Nov 1807 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

Abner Sharpe was Iredell County's first Clerk of Court. Abner was the son of William and Catherine Reese Sharpe. Abner was born Oct. 1, 1772 and died Nov. 11, 1807. He was married to Mary Lloyd Osborne Aug. 20, 1797. His father William was an attorney and surveyor who is credited with having surveyed and laid out the first streets in Statesville after it was created as the county seat by the N.C. State Legislature in 1789. Iredell forms as a county out of Rowan County in 1788. According to Homer Keever's book, Iredell-Piedmont County, Abner attended Clio's Nursery of Arts and Sciences located between Snow Creek and the South Yadkin River. It was founded by James Hall in 1774 and lasted until around 1787.[1]

  • Abner Sharpe and James Caldwell, Iredell County, Entered in 1794, Issued in 1797, 20 acres, Waters of Third creek, file 225, Type: Patent

Abner Sharpe was one of the first residents of the new city of States Ville (currently known as Statesville), Iredell County, North Carolina in 1800.[3]
