Name: Abraham SHAW Given Name: Abraham Surname: SHAW Sex: M Birth: 8 Sep 1720 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts Death: 16 May 1746 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts Occupation: Weaver, Husbandman Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, USA Will: Administration of Estate 1 Jul 1746 Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, USA Note: Administration on the estate of Abraham Shaw, late of Weymouth, weaver, was granted to his widow Joanna Shaw 01-Jul-1746. (Suffolk Probate, 39: 90) His estate was valued at £1,670 18s 3d. The account of Joanna Shaw, presented 16-Jun-1747, gives items paid Susannah Shaw, Alice Shaw, Abigail Shaw, and for the widow's support in bringing up two small children. (Suffolk Probate, 39: 638). John Shaw of Weymouth, husbandman, was appointed guardian unto his nephew Abraham Shaw aged about 5 years, son of Abraham Shaw, late of Weymouth, husbandman, deceased 16-May-1749 (Suffolk Probate, 42: 384), and also to his niece Susannah Shaw, aged about seven years old, daughter of the aforesaid Abraham Shaw, on the same day month, and year (Suffolk Probate, 42: 385). Chamberlin gives Abraham Shaw two more daughters, Alice and Abigail, referring to a reference in Abraham's will which bequests items to them. However, the listed probate records make no mention of a guardian being appointed for either Alice or Abigail, although his step-brother John Shaw was appointed guardian for Susannah and Abraham. In addition, the possible birthdates for these two daughters would present a constricted time line. Abraham and Joanna were married 26-Jan-1741/2 and he died before July of 1746. As Susannah was born in Oct. 1742, this would leave very little time for a prior pregnancy and birth. As Abraham was born in Dec 1744, this also leaves very little time for a later birth (unless one or both werer born after his death). Finally, Abraham had sisters named Abigail and Alice. While it would be appropriate to name children after a sibling, the time frames, the guardianship and the naming in the will leads me to believe that Abraham had only two children and that Chamberlin misread the probate records.Abraham was born on September 8, 1720.
