Biography

Mary Shaw was born September 22, 1748, the daughter of John Shaw and Elizabeth Salter. She married James Sterling, originally from Ireland, October 20, 1768. She passed away April 19, 1785, at the age of 36 years, and is buried in St. Mary's Episcopal Churchyard, Burlington, with her husband and children:

  • James Hunter Sterling b. 9-14-1769; d. 9-9-1798
  • Elizabeth Salter Sterling Budd b. 7-6-1771; d. 10-8-1815; m. Mahlon Budd
  • Mary and Jane Sterling, twins lived for only a few hours 6-19-1773
  • Samuel Shaw Sterling b. 5-9-1774; d. 4-1-1808 unm.
  • William Sterling b. 10-17-1776; d. 9-22-1881 age 4
  • Archibald S. Sterling, b. Sept. 26, 1780; m. Mary A. Robinson.
  • John Wesley Sterling, b. Oct. 11, 1782; m. Ann Woodward.
  • Margaret Sterling, b. Apr. 12, 1785; m. John Johnston.
