Note: This profile was previously connected to a profile conflating his father with another man. His father was John Holdershaw who was in 1760 married to Sarah Cole and died c. 1807 in Frankfort, then in Hancock County, Massachusetts.
William was the son of John Holdershaw and Sarah Cole. He was of the apparent first generation to drop the first part of his birth name and simply use the last name of Shaw. It was recorded in the Orrington Town Record page 120...
"Men now living in Frankfort have left off the Holder name, now Shaw."
William first married in 1798 to his cousin Hannah Cole, daughter of Deacon Abiel Cole and Hannah Linnell. After her death, he was again married to widow Abigail (Baker) Linnell. His will was dated 26 April 1854.[1] He passed away in 1856.
