Sorry, I can't help with the names you seek but do have minor references to other Shaws in the area.

I have a book, Dennysville 1786-1986 and Edmunds Too, written by Rebecca Hobart. Dennysville wasn't even established until 1786, so for Sally to be born there in 1790, her parents had to be among the first in the area. I don't find the name Shaw in the lists of earliest names for Dennysville. Mrs. Hobart names 16 men who went with Theodore Lincoln to start the new logging town. She also names some of the families who were already in that area of Maine before 1786 but, sadly, ends with "and others". No Shaws mentioned.

There is no name index, so I have to scan the 100+ pages, which means I might be missing something. (Bad eyes - don't scan well anymore.) But, here are the meager references I did find.

Pg. 20 Re: Schools

"In the Eastport Sentinel of Jan. 15, 1890, there appeared an article written by Ezra Stanchfield of Shueyville, Iowa, in which he recalled coming to Washinton County March 7, 1818.... He attended the "Old Schoolhouse", built in 1817.... He compiled a list of names of scholars whom he could remember ...." The list includes the names of scholars from No. 10, Edmunds, "Mary, Jane, and Thomas Shaw" (The names are written together as shown, not listed separately, so are likely siblings or cousins.)

Page 61 RE: medical care, taken from information of John D. Allen's diary: "... Feb. 24, after scaling lumber all day with Henry Shaw at Cathance Lake, and arriving home during a light rain at 8:30 p.m., he drove to Machias to get a doctor ... "

Pg. 65 Re: Civil War

"On Tuesday evening, May 8, 1861, a military company was formed in the quiet little village of Dennysville, composed of twenty-five young men. On the following evening eighteen of the number took the required oath and enlisted in the defense of the stars and stripes. The names were: ...Wm. Henry Shaw...John Shaw, Isaac Shaw ...

Pg. 96 RE: Neighboring Edmunds

It appears there may have been a sawmill here even earlier than in Dennysville, but the township, referred to as Township X, was begun at about the same time, i.e., following the Rev. War. The name "Shaw" is listed as one of the early settlers. No first name given. "The census of 1790 recorded 42 inhabitants in Township X, 19 males and 23 females."

P. 110 List of Civil War Veterans includes: Isaac Shaw and William Shaw, with a note that William was killed in action.

Sorry. That's it. Nothing about a Benjamin, unless he is the Shaw mentioned as one of the early settlers for Edmunds, except I don't think the town was named that, yet. Perhaps the name would show up in a Washington County US Census for 1790. I don't think so, though, because I put a search in for Benjamin Shaw and got a zero response for 1790 Washington Co. Maine. When I just put in "Shaw", without a first name, there were two but Ancestry.com won't let me see the names or listings without paying. May be Benjamin is listed by initial or a misspelling or they were staying with other family, so someone else was named as head of house or...??

I've found with my family up there at that time that they really spread out all over the place, including New Brunswick and all the little towns around the county and beyond. Neither Dennysville nor Edmunds grew and developed as hoped, so many people struck out for other places. It's a merry chase to locate them.
