I am putting in outline information to establish profiles through John 1797 and Della 1798. (After looking up the Shaw in question to make there isn't a profile already, of course). I will return and complete the entries after I get my mother's tree outlined.
A 1982 telephone interview with Joy Shaw (my baby aunt). I have my original notes. Joy listed all the aunts, uncles, and cousins she could remember and told the stories she knew. This is excellent information on what individuals were like as people, but it's important to verify such facts as names and dates. Joy spent much of her childhood away from Louisiana. For example, Joy heard that either D.F. or T.W. died after being hit by a train. She may have said which, but I'd have to look at my original notes. I have not been able to verify the train story, but I haven't looked very hard, either. For example, I haven't gone on a hunt for their obituaries or obtained their death certificates. ———— Deborah Shaw-5852 08:17, 14 October 2014 (EDT)
Legal documents are our friends. The 1881 lawsuit against D.F. and siblings' felonious tutor provides some great info about the beginning of his life. Early in the 20th century both D.F. and Nina's father T.W. Perkins were mentioned as witnesses in a case before the Louisiana Supreme Court. About a decade after the end of D.F.'s life there was some confusion about the disposition of his property, which was unfortunate for them but may be lucky for us. I haven't obtained the probate documents, which may clarify some things. Dora died in 1937 and D.F. in 1939. Tom, D.F.'s first born, died in 1946; Lena, the second, was female (yes, that mattered, even in 1946). D.F.'s third child, Alvin, died intestate on Hogmanay 1947, which is why you'll see his death date listed in places as 1948. Subsequent to Alvin's death, my grandfather Chester, D.F.'s fourth child, filed a family data sheet at the Claiborne Parish courthouse that listed all of D.F.'s children and their descendants as of the date of the document. Alas, the photocopy I have is fourth generation and letter size, but the original document is a legal-sized form. Even so, the handwriting is tiny and cramped. It's difficult to read. ' ' Remind me to look up the date, book, and page number. ' '
Much of the information in my records on the descendants of John Shaw 1763–1847 and Mary Wilson Wagner 1768–1851 comes from the research of Eloise Shaw Whittington, who did it the hard way, pre-internet, by sifting through documents in dusty courthouse basements and such activities. We are very grateful to Eloise.See Eloise's profile for more information: Eloise Shaw Whittington.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with D. F. by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with D. F.:
