Biography

Zenath Shaw was born about 1794, probably in Wake County, North Carolina. She is the daughter of William Shaw and Media Mobley, named as daughter Zenath Upton in her father's 1826 Wilson County, Tennessee, will.[1] Her first name is sometimes spelled: Zena, Zinia, Ozina.

Members of her family resided in Wake, North Carolina, until about 1803, when they appear in the Wilson County, Tennessee, tax list. Two of her sisters, Delilah Harris and Frances Williams, moved to southern Illinois counties.

She married John Henry Upton, as his second wife. No marriage record has been found.[2]

Shaw-6687 and Shaw-6694 appear to represent the same person because: Zenath was mistakenly linked to William Shaw of Onslow. She is the daughter of William Shaw and Media Mobley. These Williams have been confused in several family histories.
