It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:
•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future
You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.
On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!
Thanks for your email. I like getting your prompts from you to remind me to review my work. . It helps me.
I can spend a bit of time helping others with others working on the low land Scotland profiles with sources and Irish -Scots links. I need to work on some filling out of profiles to give context to the profiles. Could we have a team that works on putting in Historical context to the profiles. This will help users understand why people did what they did. I had one case where a contributer had a person being a Jacobite rebel , then a few months later being appointed a captain in the English army in Ireland . Other have little understanding that England and Scotland were different countries before 1660.
It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!
This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.
In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.
We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:
If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general
We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.
Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!
Sincerely,
Amy Gilpin
on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders
Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.
What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?
This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.
I have had a lot of family commitments that have kept me from this project in the past year. However I am focusing on cleaning up the existing profiles in my name. (There are a lot I realised. ) I have been working with some other members on this. One branch of the family straddles the Scotland / Ireland divide between 1600 and 1700. So I am working on them at the moment. Each profile takes hours hours to cross check and correct. As new resources come on line I can up date them. I tend to use primary sources not popular web sites. It is not a quick process. I also encourage collaboration so emails with those members takes time.
In regards with goolge groups. google can't be used in some of the countries such as china. I do a lot of work with them. As Australian based, in recent weeks , I am wary about some online groups such as Facebook who have banned all sorts of local community groups including our local fire warning services. So I am not sure of the way to go with this.
Thank you for checking in. This year has been a strange year, for sure, and we thank you for helping improve Scottish profiles. I understand your concerns about other online platforms and we are happy to continue communicating with you in a way that you are comfortable, be that here via Private Message/Comments or G2G and email.
We'd love to have you join the Twisted Thistles
in the upcoming Connect-a-thon the weekend of July 17 - July 20. If you'd like to join us and help to develop our ever-expanding Scottish tree, please register on the G2G post here
and be sure to mention you'd like to be on the Twisted Thistles team for Scotland.

You sent me an email that I incorrectly referenced an item, however, you didn't provide a direct link to profile. I do apologize if this happened, but, I need to see what you're talking about so it won't happen again. Please let me know. Thank you kindly.
We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.
Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please dont assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.
Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.
I would love to know about your branch of the family. just start slowly. start with your mum as a first profile. the lances go a long way back and were involved in beheading a king!
Peter are you saying Willie was his real name? His last will & testament and death notice in South Africa note him as William. Will need to see if I can obtain a copy of his birth or baptism record in Australia. I have searched a bit on the passengers list no luck.
Dear Peter, Thanks for your message about sourcing and dates. One of the aims of the source is to enable others to track back to see the information themselves. If this is not possible (such as the source being a family bible) then the source should give as much detail as possible. Details are available at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources
So if you are entering in sources, adding dates of sources does help.
I saw that you removed Christian Bruce and James Shaw as the parents of James Gilbert Shawe. (Shawe -1) This is a connection that seems to be universally shown across all of the other genealogy sites. I am curious if there is a reason that you removed it other than the fact that you didn't find a birth record.
Also, you can put a sticker on your profile You can do so by adding the words Integrators Challenge with the {{ }} in front and back, in your biography.
Thank you and Good Luck!! Dorothy ~ Integrators Project Coordinator
