Biography

Clan affiliation: There is no known record of a recognized clan affiliation in his life time. The low land Shaw family had no known historical clan affiliation at the time.

Robert was gifted lands at Bargarran , Erskine, Scotland on the 9th Febuary, 1596. [1] The earliest mention of land transfer in his name is 1567. In this transfer he is represented by others as a minor of very young age. This places his birth at about 1567 at the lastest 1560 the earliest. [2] Crawford also references him using the above sources. [3] subsequent documents reference him as , 1. Brother to John Laird of Greenock. and 2. Living in Bagarran. He also inherited lands in Drumwlling or Drumallian Hill just to the West of Greenock. This land is opposite his younger brothers lands William at spango. and on lands that his sisters married into with other families.

There are clear references to three of his sons and two daughters in a will by his wife Agnes dated 1612 . These children, at least in part are mentioned in other legal documents. [4]

1. Robert is mentioned as t Robert of Bargarran and a Cousin or uncle to john Shaw of Greenock. ( 1623) [5]

2. John Who appears to have been the eldest son. (circa 1638- 1690) inherited Bagarran house Erskine. He is not explicitly mentioned in the will as he automatically inherits land and house and would not be mentioned in the wife's will.

3. William (circa 1610-1670) writer lived at Murdestone and managed the legal affairs of the extended family. [6] William at the time of this document would have been 15-18 at the most. There is also reference to a William Shaw a writer in Glasgow and relative of the laird of Greenock.

The daughters are.

4. Elizabeth mentioned as in the will . 5. Agnes also mentioned in the will. [7]
