She also went to Ladies College in Whitby and became a school teacher before she married Dr. Harry (Thomas Henry) Hassard who was a vet on Jan. 25, 1893. He was a horse importer and veterinarian. She died March 9, 1924 and is buried in St. Paul's Cemetery, Millbrook.
According to a personal letter from Kathleen Shaw: Dr. Hassard was a vet who used to go to Scotland to import Clydesdales. Aunt Emma went once with him. A Scotchman told her he liked her crack (talk). She thought it a great joke.
