John and Catherine came to America with Ellen and Michael in 1872. The family made their home in Adams, Houghton, Michigan. [1]
Michael worked in the copper mines at Atlantic Mine. A Lander at No. 4 shaft had dumped the skip and sent the car to the Rock House, which is about one hundred feet from the Shaft House. Michael took a broom and was sweeping off some rock from the track with his face toward the returning car but did not step aside when the car came to him and he was dragged some thirty feet under it before the car was thrown from the track. He was killed instantly. [2] Michael is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Houghton, Houghton County, Michigan. [3]
