Tony had a legal practice in Gisborne. He coached the Poverty Bay rugby team. He was a keen squash player. He served as a magistrate in Gisborne. He was a well received speaker at social gatherings, being a gifted orator.
In 1975-1976 he served as president of the Gisborne District Law Society.
He had 3 children, 2 daughters and a son. One daughter was Cathy Sheehan who lived in Devonport.
Cathy graduated in zoology. She had two sons.
She was killed when knocked off her bicycle in Kuala Lumpur.
The other daughter was Robyn.
