Thomas Sheffield, FREEHOLDER,[1]CARPENTER,[2], son of John Sheffield and Mary Eeling, was baptized on the 10 or 20 Sep 1732 in Great Brickhill, Buckinghamshire, England.[3][4]
Thomas was buried on the 22 Jul 1800 in Great Brickhill, Buckinghamshire, England.[5], his will proved on the 19th July 1800.[2] probated 09 Aug 1800.[2] Thomas leaves his estate to his wife Anne.[6]

Thomas had property both on Cuff Lane very near to the Old Lion Inn in Great Brickhill and a plot of farmland nearby (see yellow arrows in enlarged 1772 enclosure map photo above).

"Window Tax, liable to be paid by occupiers of property rather than owners, was introduced in 1696 and collected until 1851. Before 1784 the Window Tax and various other taxes were assessed separately but from this date a consolidated assessment to incorporate the various taxes on houses, servants, horses, carriages etc. came into being. Those occupiers deemed to be impoverished were not required to contribute".[1]
