He was president of the Garden Prairie Improvement Association for several years.[11]
  • Fred was a volunteer fireman for Boone County Fire Protection District #2 for twenty years.[12]
  • Fred was a "farm league" baseball coach for the Garden Prairie Mustangs for a couple years. Team members included his son, Frederick Sheffield Jr..[13]
  • Fred and his son Freddie Jr were members of the Y-Indian Guides Program at the YMCA. "Father And Son, Pals Forever"
