It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Sheldon-577 and Sheldon-134 appear to represent the same person because: These two John's, both husbands of Herodias Watson, was the son of John Sheldon Sr. No one is quite sure who the mother of John Srs children was. The Sheldon Family Association currently has Susan Cleremont, as noted in the original magazine from 1855. Deliverance Palmer has also been suggested. But there is no documentation either way. The mother, whomever she was, seems to have died prior to her husband in 1704 as she is not mentioned in his wife, but he does list all of his children.
