Samuel Jefferson Shellenberger was born 6 September 1855 to Abraham Shellenberger and Elizabeth Doney in Clearfield, Union County, Pennsylvania. Samuel would be one of seven children born to Abraham and Elizabeth. By the time Samuel was 15, his family relocated to Shelby County, Missouri. From here the family relocated to Osborne County, Kansas where Samuel married Christiana (Annie) Neuschwanger on 31 October 1878. Their union would be blessed with 4 sons and 2 daughters. 1930 finds Samuel and Christiana living in Bear Creek, Emmet County, Michigan. This is where they would live out their lives. One of their sons also moved to Michigan with Samuel and Christiana. Samuel is buried in Brutus Mennonite Cemetery, Brutus, Michigan.
