Hello, I descend from Emily Shelton (1810-1891). She is a possible daughter of Claiborne and Saluda but I have no proof. The only connection I see is a mention in book called "Those I have met, or, Boys in Blue. It says "Archibald Justice married Miss Emily Shelton, sister of Jessie, Thomas, Henry, John, and William Shelton (all sons of Claiborne and Saluda). https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/21224/images/dvm_LocHist007228-00187-1?pId=331

I have documentation of 2 grandchildren of Emily who said she was of full French Blood they were both of an age to fully remember her. If she indeed was French, I doubt she was the daughter of Claiborne and Saluda. However, strange as it sounds, I looked into the French possibilities further. Claiborne and Saluda settled in Gallia Ohio. Gallia means "French" in ancient LatinI. A large group of French people know as the "The French 500: arrived in Gallia in 1790. Could Emily possibly from one of these families? Could she of actually married a Shelton and had son Lyphus Shelton in 1832, prior to her marriage to Archibald Justice? Making the listing of brothers in the book her brother-in-laws? Could she of been adopted by Claiborne Shelton? He was involved in starting a school there.

Anyone hear something similar? Or have any proof of Emily's parents?

Shelton-3609 and Shelton-3200 appear to represent the same person because: Same name. Same parents. Close to the same birth year.

The "other" Claiborne is my missing link - I'm pretty sure he's my great-great-great grandfather. I've found some rock solid evidence that he's the son of Eliphaz Shelton, but since he died interstate, I have only some very tantalizing hints that he's the father of my great-great grandfather. Robert Shelton is my great-great grandfather, Andrew Hampton is my great-grandfather, and Lloyd Shelton is my grandfather. There's a lot of information out there connecting the Claiborne who married Seludy Mustain to John Shelton (son of Ralph Shelton, Sr.). Good luck!! :) - Jeannine

We don’t expect any “miracle” solutions, but would love to connect with the Patrick County, VA, Claiborne Shelton line and collaborate our research. Here is to hoping to find some answers in 2000!

After owning farms in Jackson and Buchanon Counties of MO, my line, Haman Shelton,

traveled to Oregon from MO in 1847.

The confusion between the two Claibornes has generated numerous messages to our line but we have discovered that the confusion is between our Claiborne, son of Eliphas, son of Ralph Jr. and the following:

Claiborn Shelton who married Seludy Mustain on 16 May 1785 in Pittsylvania County, VA. He was the son of John Shelton who had another son who married Pricilla Mustain, the daughter of Jesse Mustain. This Jesse was the son of Thomas and Mary Mustain - the father of Seludy Mustain.

Claiborn and Seludy had nine children: Joel, Henly, John, Jesse, Betsy, Thomas, Rosetta, Seludy and William. Seludy died in 1812 in Gallia,Ohio.

Part #2 of Claiborne #1 & Claiborne #2 post:

http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/shelton/1997/

Here is what we have on Claiborne: Claiborne Shelton b. 1782 Patrick Co. VA d. 1833 Jackson Co. MO Married??? (we think, an Elizabeth) Children (All born Patrick Co. MO): Haman b. 1799--our line Charlotte b. 1800 Harbert b. 1801 Eliphaz b. 1805 Robert b. 1812 Alfred b. 1815

We think that Claiborne left Patrick Co. VA sometime around 1830 and lived in NC briefly before traveling with some of his grown children to Jackson Co. MO, where he died in 1833.

We have connected with Harbert's descendants but would like to know what happened to the rest. We think that Claiborne and some members of the family (Robert, Alfred and Charlotte and spouse) traveled to Jackson Co. MO with HAMAN.

Hello - I think you may have your Claiborne Sheltons confused. Deborah Lee posted an article that explains the confusion very well:
