When John Edward Shepherd Jr was born in 1854, in Floyd, Kentucky, United States, his father, John Edward Shepherd Sr, was 36 and his mother, Sarah Hale, was 25. He married Lucinda Howard on 1 August 1872, in Magoffin, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Magoffin, Kentucky, United States for about 10 years and Precinct 6 Trace Fork, Magoffin, Kentucky, United States in 1880. He died on 4 August 1894, in Floyd, Kentucky, United States, at the age of 40.
