Merchant, of Portsmouth, graduated Harvard in 1728. He was Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, Rep. to the General Assembly of NH (1745-66), and for 10 years Speaker of the House; Commissioner to the Interview with the Six Nations of Indians, 1754; Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, 1756; and of the King's Council, 1766.
