Biography

Hannah (Sherman) Stephens was born in 1644 to William Sherman and Prudence Hill. The proof of the parentage of Edward Stephens's wife, although her first name is not referenced in the book Descendants of William Sherman of Marshfield, Massachusetts, is contained in a deed by Samuel Sherman in which he references land which William Sherman, his father, gave land to his grandson, William Stephens. This land was then deeded to Samuel by William Stephens in exchange for other land[1] The children of William Sherman listed in his will include:

  1. William, born 1639
  2. Samuel, born 1641
  3. A daughter, born 1644
  4. John, born 1645 p. 3

There is no name listed for his only daughter. The reference surmises that her name may have been Hannah or Sarah because in the Marshfield records, the copy is illegible, but her first name ends in an "h".p. 1 Her parents were married 23 Jan 1637/38 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. p. 1 [2] According to the Marshfield records, she was buried in October 1680.[1]
