Biography

Thankful Sherman, daughter of William Sherman and Mercy (White), was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts, 10 Apr 1699.[1][2]

Thankful Sherman married (1) Robert Atkins 3 Jan 1722/3. He was born about 1690 and died at Marshfield, 19 May 1724, in his 35th year.[1][2]

Thankful Atkins married (2) John Poland (or Polden) 26 May 1726. He was born in Plymouth, 20 Jan 1702, son of John and Lydia (Tilden) Poland.[1][2]

John Poland was baptized as an adult 21 Mar 1730/1 in the Marshfield Church.[1] Thankful Poland was admitted to the church 5 Oct 1735.[1][3]

19 Apr 1738, John Polden, cordwainer, and wife Thankful, both of Marshfield, sold to Thomas Eames, land and buildings, in Marshfield, given them by their father William Sherman.[1]

John Polden of Marshfield, cordwainer, was sued March 1743/4 by Peleg Ford for debt. This is the last record of John. No probate was found.[1]

Thankful Polden died in Marshfield 28 Sep 1739 age 40. [1][2] She was buried in the Old Burial Ground at the Congregational Church, Marshfield, now designated as Cedar Grove Cemetery.[2]

Thankful's father, William, made his will Nov 1739, shortly after Thankful's decease. He made bequests of £25 each to her two children John and Mary Polden.[4]
