Raymond Arthur Shields died of a heart attack while working in the mines. There is a history of heart complications in our family, and my Grandfather had been on heart medication. He had stopped taking his medication because Ginger, the fur-family member, grabbed up one of the pills he'd dropped and went into convulsions and passed, according to my Father. I was 5 when Grandfather passed, but I do remember Ginger as Grandpa would pick me up to spend the weekend and we would always stop off at the Dairy Delight for baby cones that Ginger and I both got, and I would often lose mine onto the ground from laughing at Ginger shivering but not even pausing until the last bit of cone was gone, at which time my Grandpa would tuck her in under his jacket.
Of the 3 sons, my Father, the oldest, is the only survivor. He fortunately was life-flighted to Presby's Cardiology department quickly upon showing signs of a heart attack. Dad has had a double bypass as well as his aortic valve replaced. His younger brother Robert Shields had 2 strokes before he passed of a heart attack, and the youngest Richard Shields, passed of a heart attack in his sleep. The majority of early deaths in this branch have been from heart problems. ~Pj Shields-Patty
