Biography

Bob had several strokes, and passed of a massive heart attack. He was buried at the Oakland Cemetary, Indiana, PA on August 25, 1995. My son Joshua was asked to be Poll Bearer by his cousins, which occurred on his 18th birthday. They also asked my daughter Jenalee, who is a talented artist, to draw the image of Bob's ferret, Dummy, to be engraved on his headstone. He took Dummy everywhere with him. The boys stated it was a perfect resemblance. Bob was retired Army who was also a Vietnam Vet.

Obituary: NEWSPAPER OBITUARY CLIPPING: Robert Shields Robert L. Shields, 54, of Indiana, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1995, at the Indiana Hospital. The son of Raymond Arthur and Hazel Shields, he was born Jan. 3, 1941 in Young Township, Indiana County. He was a member of AARP. Mr. Shields was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired after 20 years of service. He also was employed as a mechanic for McGills Ford dealership of Indiana and had been a security guard for various campanies in Ohio. Surviving are two sons, Michael and David, both of Lancaster, Ohio; his mother; two brothers; Kenneth, husband of Jean, Indiana RD 6, and Richard D., husband of Sophia, Saudi Arabia; and two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Philip H. Scherr officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, Inc, 119 Professoinal Center, Suite 303, 1265 Wayne Ave., Indiana, Pa 15701

It looks like from toddler days til retirement, Uncle Bob always wanted to serve his country. From his first picture in uniform to his last, he seemed to have decided to change from the Navy to Army tho!
