Adam settled on a new farm in Morgan County, Ohio, in 1828, a few years after his marriage to Martha Mills. He also lived in Athens and Hocking Counties in Ohio before moving, by team to Washington Township, Blackford County, Indiana in October 1845. He first erected a round log cabin with puncheon floor and clapboard roof. At his death he owned 120 acres of choice land which he had cleared with his sons. He died on this homestead and both he and his wife are buried there. A new residence was not built until 1880.
