Weeden enlisted in the Union Army as a Private in Company L of the 1st Indiana Cavalry on 14 Nov 1862. He later applied for a Pension on Application No. 829414 and received the pension on Certificate No. 638106. He was at the battle of Helena, Arkansas, and in numerous skirmishes.
