Biography
William was born in 1871 and baptised on 7 May of that year in Workington, Cumberland, England.[1]. His birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1871 in the Cockermouth district.[2]
In the 1881 census William (age 10) was the single step son of John Parr in Church St, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, Yorkshire North Riding, England.[3]
William's marriage to Mary Jane Snaith was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1898 in the Middlesbro' district.[4]
In the 1911 census William (age 40) was the married head of household working as a smelter in a steelworks in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England.[5]

Valerie-Ann (Shields) Nelson
My grandfathers name was William Shields, he came from Cumberland. I think he was born in the late 1800's. He had 4 children, the youngest was my father "Harold". They moved to SA when my father was 3, but went back to the UK years later. William was a blacksmith. Do you think it might be the same person?
