Biography

Suzanne Stein reports: "At this time, there is no proof of Rosanna's parents. She and Zachariah Davis were married in Hardeman Co, TN on May 22, 1824. They arrived in DeWitt Colony, Texas on Feb 20, 1831. Their children: Elizabeth Ann, George W, Susan, Eliza Jane, May Ann or Polly, Vienna, Lavinia, Nancy J, Rosanna and Emmaline. Sometime after Zachariah's death, believed by many to have been in 1848, Rosanna married John A Rhoads on Sept 21, 1854 at Prospect McCoy's house. She then married Albert Matthews in 1855. In 1860, she is living with her daughter and son-in-law, Eliza and Joseph McCoy. Daniel Davis' burial site is unknown." Rosanna was buried at Sandies Chapel Cemetery, Dewville, Gonzales County, Texas.^[1]

Rosanna was born on 15 June 1805 in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States. She was the daughter of Isaac Shinault and Unknown Margaret.^[2]

When Rosanna was 18 she married John A Rhoades on 22 May 1824 in Tennessee.^[3]

This couple lived in Hardeman Co., TN for some six years, then moved to AL and thence to TX, reaching Gonzales Co., 20 Feb 1831. They had ten children.

After the death of her first husband, Rosanna m. (2) 20 Sep 1854, John A. Rhodes; m. (3) Albert Matthews. A letter written 1859 from Gonzales, TX, says Rosanna "is a fine old lady."
