Biography

Barzillai Shinn was born in 1749 in New Jersey. He was a son of Francis Shinn and Elizabeth Atkinson.[1]

He lived in New Hanover Township, Burlington, New Jersey in 1770. He owned:

Acres of land 140; horses and cattle 7; servants and slaves 0; merchants 0; grist mills 0; saw mills 0; stills 0; riding chairs 0.[2]

Barzillai Shinn paid taxes in August of 1774 in New Hanover Township, Burlington, New Jersey.[3]

He lived in New Hanover Township, Burlington, New Jersey in 1780. He owned:

Acres of land 140; horses 2; cattle 7; hogs 1; merchants and traders 0; saw mills 0; "Grisss" mills 0; stills 0; taverns 0; "Ta[n?]yards 0; slaves 0; chairs 0; spring wagons 0; [money at?] interest 0.[4]

Barzillai was disowned at the Mount Holly Meeting on June 11, 1783 for not marrying his wife, Hannah, within the Meeting and for not condemning the act. They had four children together; Francis, Martha, Aschah and George.[5]

Barzillai died in about 1790 in Burlington, New Jersey. Inventory was made on August 6, 1790.[6]
