Benjamin Shipley performed Patriotic Service in Maryland in the American Revolution.

Benjamin Shipley is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A103842.

Benjamin Shipley was born to Richard Shipley II and Keturah H (Barnes) Shipley on 6 August 1751.

Benjamin lived on a farm, later owned by Dr. Luke Mercier Shipley his tombstone moved to Dr. Shipley's lot in a church yard near West Friendship, Howard Co, MD. Also his 2nd wife Amelia Hobbs is buried there, inscription July 30, 1859 in 90th year, According to the Howard county gen. society the stone is outside the cemetery the base of a large tulip poplar tree==Can't find! There is a stone turned over and can't read back side, don't know if it is his. Benjamin was the son of Richard Shipley Jr. (1709-1781) and Keturah Barnes (1710- )

Benjamin first married Rachel Frost in 1770. He married Amelia Hobbs on 13 Aug. 1791.

Benjamin passed away on 22 July 1828. He is buried in McKendree Cemetery in West Friendship, Maryland.

His Will

Will of Benjamin Shipley
In the name of God amen, I Benjamin Shipley of Anne Arundel County and in the State of Maryland being in perfect health of Body and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to Say: First and principally, I commit my soul unto the hands of Almighty Cod and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named and after my Just debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows:
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Ann Shipley my gray horse and side saddle and bridle and cow and bed to be delivered to her on the day of her marriage or whenever she shall demand them after my death and the day of her marriage to her and her heirs for ever.
Item - I give and devise unto my daughter Rachael Shipley one hundred dollars current money and cow and one Bed to be delivered to her on the day of her marriage or whenever she shall demand them after my Death to her and her heirs for ever.
Item - I give and devise unto Margaret Ann Shipley my Daughter one hundred dollars current money and cow and one bed to be delivered unto her on the day of her marriage or whenever she shall demand them after my Death to her and her heirs for ever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Amelia Shipley my negro man named Ben and my negro woman named Rachel and her issue that she may have from and after this time and also my negro girl named Rachael and her offspring together with all the real and residue of my personal estate except such as have been otherwise bequeathed to her the said Amelia Shipley during her natural life and the same to dispose of at her will and pleasure at her death. I also give and devise unto my wife Amelia Shipley my plantation on which I now dwell lying and being in the county and state aforesaid containing eighty-seven and one half acres of Land more or less being part of a tract of Land called Woodfard and part of a tract of Land dispute ended to her the said Amelia during her natural life under the incumberance of a single life estate to my three daughters, namely Mary Ann Shipley, while a feme sole to Rachael Shipley while a feme sole to Margaret Ann Shipley while a feme sole and whenever they or either of them shall marry her rite to said plantation shall cease on the day of her marriage, this provision to extend to each of them on the day of their several marriages and if my son Joshua Shipley should survive his mother I then give and devise the aforesaid plantation to him the said Joshua Shipley after his mother's death to him and his lawful heirs for ever and if he the said Joshua Shipley should die before his mother & die without a lawful heir I then devise the aforesaid plantation to my Daughter namely Elizabeth Warfield wife of Seth Warfield, Eliza Hipsley wife of Charles G. Hipsley, Hamital Roboson wife of Oneal Roboson, Amelia Shipley wife of Samuel Shipley, Mary Ann Shipley now a feme sole (unmarried woman), Rachael Shipley now a feme sole, Margaret Ann Shipley now a feme sole each of them to have Share and Share alike to them and their heirs forever and if my son Joshua Shipley shall wish to continue with his mother after he Shall arrive at the full age of twenty one years, I desire that he shall have one half of the crops that may be made on the aforesaid plantation devised to his mother or to have such a share as his mother and he may agree upon. Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my Dear wife Amelia Shipley to be sole executrix of this my last will and testament desiring her to settle the same without the trouble of an administration and I do hereby revoke any and all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and conferring this and no other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and do affix my Seal this nineteenth day of December November in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty Seven.

Anderson two of the the 31st day of July 1828 subscrib witnesses to the within last will\and testament of Benjamin Shipley late of Anne Arundel County deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see the testator therein named sign and seal this will and that they hear publish perform and declare the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was of the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that they together with Leonard Hobbs one other of the subscribing witnesses, respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of the testator and all in the presence of each other.
