While everyone seems to agree that the mother of Josiah's children was Elizabeth Brooks, and she preceded him in death, it is curious that in his will he names his wife as Jane. There may be another wife. The last will and testament of Josiah Shipp was written 24 Jan 1705 and proved 12 Feb 1706. [1] He also names his three sons in his will Richard, Josiah and Thomas.
Josiah was born in 1664 in St Ann Parish, Essex Co., Colony of Virginia, American Colonies. He was the son of William Shipp and Sarah Jane (Butt) Shipp.[2]
When Josiah was about 20 he married in 1684 in St Annes, Rappahannock, Virginia, United States.[3]
Josiah died at the age of about 41 on 24 January 1705 in St Anne S Parris, Essex Co., Colony of Virginia, American Colonies.[2]

I like to believe that Josiah had reached the age of discretion (fourteen), got a heifer for a birthday gift, and proudly her took to the courthouse to show off the new earmark.
