Notes
Note NI134[JohnWiki.GED]
He had three children but as yet I don't know their names or what happened to them.
He probably joined the BTC/CTC about the same time as his brothers Ernest and Frederick. He was apparently known within the BTC/CTC as William Ewart. As yet I don't know why this was so but the answer probably lies in the club archives at Warwick University. It seems likely that Ewart was his second christian name and was used to mask the fact that the Shiptons might have too great an influence in the running of the club.
In 1897 as Chief Clerk he represented the club at the first meeting of the International Touring Congress in Amsterdam.
The following year the delegates met again in Luxembourg and the new body as formally inaugurated as the 'Ligue Internationale des Associations Touristes'. It agreed to hold the first Congress in London in 1899 which was a resounding success; and the clubs influence was now manifest all over the Continent.
Lorraine Berry notes: marries in 1893 in Upton on Severn to Ethel Shearme (not sure of spelling).. In 1901 lives Addlestone, nr Chertsey, Surrey with wife , son, stepdaughter and a Servant.
