Biography

Frank was born about 1899. He was the son of William Shires and Mary Elizabeth Posey.[1][2] He married Winnie Welch on November 4, 1916 in Carthage, Texas.[3] He passed away in 1976.[2][4][5][6]

DNA

  • Paternal and Maternal relationships are confirmed by an autosomal GEDmatch comparison between S.H., GEDmatch kit # NS1833266, and Jerry Willoughby, GEDmatch kit # XQ9915584, (compare kits), his 2nd cousin 1x removed. Their most-recent common ancestors are William Shires and Mary Elizabeth Posey, the great great grandparents of S.H. and great grandparents of Jerry Willoughby. Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 3.3, based on sharing 140.8 cM across 7 segments.

Research Notes

His obituary states that he was a native of Rusk County instead of Panola County,[6] but that may be an error. His draft registration shows that he was born in 1897,[7] and the Social Security Death Index lists 1898,[8] but most other sources seem to favor 1899. While his death certificate lists his parents as George Shires and Mollie Posey,[2] his brother Obie's death certificate identified their father as William, which is thought to be the correct name.[1]

James: "My great grandfather's name is William, not George. George Franklin "Frank" Shires, father is William, not George..Frank's death certificate is wrong."
Jonathan: "Is it correct that Belle, Frank, your grandfather, and Obie were all children of both William Shires and M.E. Posey? ... If the 1882 date is accurate, that would have made him about 11 years old when Belle was conceived. Could she really be his daughter?"
James: "Yes, James, Obie, Francis, and George Franklin Shires are all children of William Shires and Mary Elizabeth Posey"
