Biography

Robert Shirley was baptised on 20 October 1650/1. He was the son of Catherine (Okeover) and Sir Robert Shirley, 4th Bt.

He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.

He succeeded to the title of 7th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] circa March 1708/9.

He was created 1st Earl Ferrers [Great Britain] on 01 September 1711.

He was created 1st Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [Great Britain] on 01 September 1711.

He died at age 67 on 25 December 1717 and was buried at Staunton Harold Churchyard in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, North West Leicestershire District, Leicestershire, England. [1]

He is reputed to have had a very large number of illegitimate children, one of whom is believed to be Lucy Shirley the wife of the Reverend Thomas Boultbee[2][3]
