| Henry Short migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). (See The Great Migration (Series 2), by R. C. Anderson, vol. 6, p. 313) Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm |

Anderson suggests on p. 318 of "Great Migration" that if research is done in England, the effort should be directed to the county of Hampshire to identify his origins.[1]
Henry Short was born 1599, at the earliest. If he was born in 1580, he would have had Henry Jr when he was 72 years old. Not impossible but highly unlikely.
In 1634, Henry migrated to New England, arriving in Ipswich Massachusetts.[2] He was enrolled as "Henry Shorte" at Southampton as a passenger for New England on the Mary & John of London. Robert Sayers was the ship's Master.[3]
1642 - Henry and Anthony Short were recorded as first settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts, United States. [4]
In 1653, he is found in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.[5]
He died on 5 May 1673,[1] of unknown causes in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.
He married twice. His first wife was named Elizabeth, surname not known. She died at Newbury on March 22, 1647. No records for children of this couple have been located.[1]
On 9 October 1648, he married Sarah Glover, in Newbury, Massachusetts.[1][6]
Sarah bore Henry four children:
His will was filed on February 13, 1672/3 and proved June 19, 1673. His primary heir was his son, Henry Short, but in his will he made abundant provision for the care of his wife, Sarah and also a legacy for his daughter Sarah. His wife and son were joint executors. The inventory of his estate was taken May 7, 1673 and totaled L1842 8s. with debts of L68 2s.
It seems that this Henry Short may be related to the lineage of Thomas Shortt (Lineage Vii of he Short DNA Project)).[citation needed] It seems possible that Sarah Glover is connected to Jose Glover although the connection is not clear.
Historically, the same family have had various spellings of their name including, Shorte, Short and Shortt.
Henry Short was a first settler in Newbury along with a possible sibling Anthony Short and another first settler recorded was Thomas Smith. Some trees suggest Anthony may have been a son of Henry. [7] [8] Could it be this Thomas Smith who was also a first settler which would support Henry being related to John Shortt and his wife Mary Owfield. Several male Short's from the lineage to Owfield have had "Y" DNA tests done (Lineage Vii of Short DNA Project). It would be most useful if there is a living male Short who descends from this lineage that would also test for comparison.

I am DNA connected to a fellow who claims to be a descendant from this line. In fact, his tree does not take one far enough back to Richard Kent. Another party whose tree does, I cannot at this time find the original person who connected to the Ancestry tree, claiming Dorothy Emma Short, born quite some years after Welthin, as the wife of Richard. So I am baffled if it is not so, now I could be related. I live in Canada, and my family only came from England around 1908. Any relationship to anybody in the USA has to go back to the original immigration, and then to Europe someplace, and then back to my family. I have been doing this for 12 years, and DNA matching for over 3-4 years. I would say I am proficient at this, and my tree is 360 degrees from my parents. Cheers. Betty G
I am most curious to know further in this regard.
I can't speak to the DNA side of your questions (which appear not to be specific to Henry Story but to his Wise son-in-law?). Perhaps you could post a message in WikiTree's G2G forum and those more knowledgeable with DNA could help you.
Several of us on the Puritan Great Migration team searched for credible evidence for the parentage of Henry Short, the emigrant, but came up empty handed. So the names of Wm. Short and Tamsyn Stysson were added in note form at the top of the biography, but not in the data section of the profile.
Will you please check the origin of the claims from Ancestry.com? Some of their "sources" are compilations of family trees and are not based on scholarly research.
Thanks.
I have traced my family back to a Henry Shorte and then ran into a roadblock. I found a Henry Short (1601-1672) and he married Sarah Glover Short (Oct. 9 1648). Then I found another Henry Moses Short (1580-1672) whose parents are William Shorte II who was married to Tamsyn Stisson Short and they had Henry Moses Short in 1580. I wondered if there were really two Henry Shorte's because I wondered if Henry and Henry were the same and that Henry Moses Short had four wives. Mary Elizabeth Ashley Short (1577-1648), married to Henry in 1602. Then he married Elizabeth Braybook Shorte (1584-1648) in 1647. She passed away and he married Sarah Glover Short (1620-1697) on Oct. 9, 1648. I discovered that she was the sister of Mary Elizabeth Ashley Short. His fourth wife was Rachel Jewel (1620-1697) . Except for this roadblock, I have also traced back to Robert Shorte (1424-?) who was married to Elizabeth King and they had Sir Robert Shorte (1445-?). Sir Robert Shorte (1445-1520) married Lady Eiiza StewartBrowne Elmes (1445-1510) and they had Sir Robert Shorte, Jr (1470-1520). Sir Robert Shorte, Jr married Lady Katherine STeward Shorte (1470-1510) and they had William Shorte (1500-1541). This William married Elizabeth Batman Shorte (1500-1541) and they had William Shorte II (1541-1602). This William married Tamsyn Stysson Shorte (1560-1602) and they married May 29, 1581 in Newbury, Berkshire England. They are the parents of Henry Moses Short (1580-1672). And this brings us up to the roadblock with the two Henry Shortes. Were there two or just one with four wives? One of them emigrated to the US on 1634 on the Mary & John. Then I found Henry Short (March 11, 1651-October 12, 1706 who married Sarah Whipple Short (1262-1706), then married Anne Sewall Longfellow Short (1663-1706). He and Ann had SAmuel Short (1682-1798). Then Samuel marries Mary Ring Short on 1729. They have John W Short who marries Zerviah Utter Short (Sept. 27, 1748-1762) and they marry on September 27, 1748. They have Asa Short (Feb. 20, 1754-1824). Asa marries Olive J Burrel Short (August 25, 1756 - 841) and they marry on July 25, 1776. They have Benona Short (1777-1837) and Benona marries Jerusha Mead (1783-1880) and they give birth to my great-great grandfather Amos Mead Short (1810-1853). If we can solve this roadblock about the Henry's maybe we can both complete our famly trees. What do you suggest? I tried to put in Henry's parents but it wouldn't let me do it.
I am new to genealogy and new to Wikitree, having done most of my work on Ancestry.com. I am now doing everything on My Heritage. You can look at my family tree at Ryer-195 in Wikitree or look at my family tree on My Heritage under Ryer Family Tree. Look for Ruth Mae Short, my mother. Her father was James Crawford Short whose Father was Grant Hall Short. Grant's parents were Amos and Esther Short.
I hope to hear from you that there is a solution to our roadblock.

Anderson says Henry Short was born by 1613, and I think we can assume born in England.
William Short-1856 and Tamsyn Stysson-1 ?
I took a look at their profiles and can see no substantial source; and there is no inline citation on this biography, so I don't know if these parents are legit.
I know Patricia did a lot of good work on this profile, maybe you have some insight, Patricia. Thanks.
I took a look at the profile of Elizabeth (Ashley) Short and the only source there is FindAGrave that has no sources and no photo of a grave, which is not a valid source on WikiTree.
The first wife of Henry Short should be Elizabeth Unknown.
