Joanna Maria Short was born on April 18th 1895 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. [1] She lived with her mother and siblings in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England. [2]
In 1913 she went to Canada and there in Saint John, New Brunswick she married John Ritchie in 1916. [3][4] Her son, William Franklin Ritchie who was born 18 Sep 1920, died 24 Feb 1921. [5] Later in 1921, they had 2 children named Joanna (age 3) and John (age 1) and were renting a 4-room house in Saint John. [6] In 1927, John and Joanna were witnesses to the marriage of her sister Catherine in Montreal, Quebec. Joanna was able to travel to Scotland, arriving in London on July 5th 1949 aboard the Scythia with the stated destination of 18 Bank St., Aberfeldy, Scotland. At that time her occupation was given as club manager. [7]
