In 1850 he is living in Johnson County with his first wife, Shelley.[1] They are listed next to Benjamin Short, age 28, also born in Tennessee - perhaps Richard's brother?

Married Elizabeth Pearce on July 6, 1855. She remarried (to Hezekiah Lambert) on January 5, 1858, so his death date is estimated at 1857.[3]
