Velma N. Shinn, age 76, of 833 Eastate Dr., Quincy, died Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 11:16 am in Blessing Hospital.
She was born October 22, 1928 in Adams County, IL the daughter of Chester and Elva Hendrickson Shrader. October 31, 1948 she married Lawrence E. Shinn in Quincy. He survives.
Mrs. Shinn was a 1948 graduate of Unity High School in Mendon. For 25 years she was employed as Cafeteria Manager at Quincy Junior High School. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women’s S.C.S. and a member of the choir and the Rebecca Circle.
She was well known for her homemade noodles and for her baking, especially her cinnamon rolls. She also was known for her special love for her grandchildren. Survivors include 2 sons Michael L. Shinn and his wife Debbie of Quincy, Kent D. Shinn and his wife Cindy of Quincy, 4 grandchildren: Melissa, Tyler, Ryan and Rick Shinn all of Quincy; 2 sisters, Marjorie Fuhrman of Quincy, Doris Taylor of Hannibal, MO, and 2 brothers Dale Shrader of Loraine and Larry Harris and his wife Helen of Quincy. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters Lucille Wilcox and Hazel Shrader and 3 brothers Earl, Clyde and Ray Shrader.
