Michael SHRIVER [1] was born 01 Jan 1852 in Noble, Ohio, United States. He was the son of Michael Shriver and Mary Hughes.
Michael Shriver was married to Anna Coil on May 4, 1884, in Greene county, Iowa.[2]
He passed away on July 30, 1936 in Jefferson, Greene, Iowa and is buried in the Jefferson Cemetery there.
His obituary was published on August 6, 1936 in the Jefferson (Iowa) Herald.[3]
Services for M. E. Shriver, highly respected and long time Jefferson resident who died last Thursday evening, were held Sunday afternoon at the Slininger chapel. The rites were in charge of Rev. W. J. Fowler of the Methodist church, while Rev. L. R. Gans gave the sermon.
The selections, "The End of a Perfect Day," and "In the Garden," were sung by Dr. J. K. Johnson, Jr., with Mrs. Dean Barker playing the piano accompaniment. Burial was in the Jefferson cemetery with the following grandsons as pallbearers: Duane Shriver, Jay Shriver, Elwood Battles, Wilbur Robertson, Douglas Shriver and Donald Robertson.
Mr. Shriver's death followed an extended illness, although up until less than a year ago he had enjoyed exceptionally good health. He became ill of kidney trouble early in the year and for some time was a patient at the University hospital in Iowa City. During the last three months he was a patient at a local hospital.
Michael Elwood Shriver, son of Michael and Mary Shriver, was born January 1, 1852, in Noble county, Ohio, and passed away in Jefferson, Iowa, July 30, 1936, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 29 days. Mr. Shriver became ill the latter part of February and since that time has never enjoyed good health.
He came to Iowa county, Iowa, with his parents in 1867 and in 1882 he moved to Greene county as one of the early settlers and settled on the Shriver homestead where his son, Amos Shriver, now resides.
He was married May 4, 1884, to Miss Annie Coil of Greene county. To Mr. and Mrs. Shriver were born seven children, Ora D. Shriver of Jefferson, Mrs. Rose Battles of Bayard, Delwood Shriver of Glidden, Mrs. Leota M. Roobertson and Amos J. Shriver, both of Jefferson, amd Mrs. Winnifred Crockett of Los Angeles, California. An infant daughter, Annie, passed away in 1903.
Mrs. Shriver preceded her husband in death June 18, 1903. Mr. Shriver continued to make his home on the farm until about twelve years ago when he moved into Jefferson to live with his son Ora. He was one of a family of six children, all of whom have preceded him in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Lucy Bladen of Marengo, Iowa.
He is survived by his three sons and three daughters, his one sister, fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, besides other relatives and many friends.
