Biography

Daughters of the American Revolution
Adam Shriver is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A104465.
1776 Project
Adam Shriver performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.

Adam Shriver's birth is somewhat nebulous. One creditable source gives his birth as 1730[1], another as 1736[2].

Adam, also known by his christening name as Johan Adam Shriver, was probably the Johan Adam Shriver listed on the ship, Isaac, captained by Robert Mitchell, which sailed from Rotterdam to Philadelphia. The Oath to the Government was given in Philadelphia on September 27, 1749.[3]

Adam was married to Christina Strosnider about 1758 in Frederick, Virginia.

Adam Shriver rendered material aid during the Revolutionary War. Claim No. 86, Department of Public Claims, Virginia State Archives, Frederick County: "I hereby certify that I have received for public use of Adam Shriver, four hundred eighteen pounds of fine flour for which payment shall be made at the rate of 60 pounds per hundred weight agreeable to Acts of Assembly. Rich Eastin-Com. Frederick County." He is listed as a patriot by the Daughters of the American Revolution; his patriot number is A104465 [4]

On March 10, 1803, Adam and Christena Shriver deeded to Abraham Shriver. 180 acres by survey on Dunkard Creek, adjoining John Statler. Consideration for the land was 20 bushels wheat, 10 bushels rye, 20 bushels corn, 300wt pork, 100wt beef annually for their subsistence; one pair of men's shoes per annum to Adam, and two pair shoes to Christena, with all other necessary wearing apparel; two milch cows to be kept for use of Adam and Christena while both are alive but only one cow after decease of either party; a few sheep and a creature to ride upon for necessary occasions; one bushel of salt per annum; 25 pounds of good sugar per annum; Abraham was to have their grinding done for them and brought to the house where they then resided, the house to be kept in good repair; and all due allowance to be rendered in time of sickness. The deed was signed (by their marks) by Adam and Christiana Shriver. It was witnessed by Peter Henkins, John Statler, and Adam Brown.[5]

Adam died in 1803 in Pentress, Monongalia, Virginia and was buried there in the Shriver Cemetery. Pentress is now a part of Monongalia, West Virginia.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Adam by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Adam:

It appears that the orphaned profile (Schreiber_Shriver-1) has incorrect information but the same birth/death dates as Shriver-34. I think they should be merged.

Schreiber Shriver-1 and Shriver-34 appear to represent the same person because: They have same birth and death dates. Other info doesn't match but dates of parents of Schreiber_Shriver-1 appear to not make sense.

Shriver-218 and Shriver-34 appear to represent the same person because: I'm trying to clean up some of the "orphaned" Shriver profiles on Wikitree - this would be one of them we could merge away.
