Biography

Clyde was born on May 3, 1883. He was the son of John Shriver and Annabella Montgomery.

Clyde registered for the World War I draft on September 12, 1918. He was working for his brother, C.G. Shriver, who is also listed as his next of kin.[1]

He died on January 6, 1952, in Churdan, Greene County, Iowa and was buried in the Highland Township Cemetery on January 9. A memorial page can be found on Find A Grave.

His obituary was published in an unknown Jefferson, Iowa, newspaper.

Final Rites For Clyde E. Shriver

Clyde E. Shriver, son of John J. and Annabella Shriver was born May 3, 1883, in Greene County, Iowa, where he spent his entire life. After several years of poor health, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on September 7, 1951, from which he only partially rallied, and a further attack on January 6, 1852 (sic) caused his death.

Besides one daughter, Mrs. Verl Smith, and five grandchildren, and one great grandchild, all of Scranton, Iowa, he leaves four sisters, Mrs. Ira F. Peacock of Spirit Lake; Mrs. William P. Stewart and Mrs. W. L. Nutt, both of Des Moines, and Jessie Shriver of Chicago, and a host of friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held from the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson, at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, January 9, 1952. Words of comfort of Rev. Charles Pearson, Pastor of Friends Church in Kendrick Township, Greene County, Iowa.

John Hanneman sang "The Lords Prayer" and "Beautiful Israel" accompanied by Mrs. William Wallace.

Casket Bearers: Harry Richards, Ray Anderson, Joe Mackey, Al Zwicky, Paul Arnold and John Spear. Interment was in the Highland Township cemetery at Churdan, Iowa.

1910 - U.S. Federal Census - In the 1910 census, Clyde, 26, is living with his wife Margaret J. Shriver, 19, in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa. He is listed as a farm laborer and is working for his brother, Clarence.[3]

September 12, 1818 - Draft Registration - Registered for the World War I draft with the Greene County, Iowa, draft board.

1920 - U.S. Federal Census - By 1920, Della L. Shriver, 46, is the head of household in a home in Highland Township, Greene County Iowa. Living with her is her younger brother, Clyde E. Shriver, 34.[4]

1930 - U.S. Federal Census - In the 1930 census, Clyde Shriver, 45, is listed as a divorced lodger living at the home of Virginia B. Allen, 80, in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa. He is listed as a ditch digger.[5]

1940 - U.S. Federal Census - In 1940, Clyde Shriver, 56, is living with his sister, Adella Shriver, 67, in Churdan, Greene County, Iowa. Adella is listed as head of household and Clyde is shown as divorced and is working as a laborer.[6]

January 6, 1952 - Death - Churdan. Greene Co., Iowa.
