"POLAND PIONEER TAKEN BY DEATH
Sylvester Scholtz, Age 72 Years Employed on Gibson Farm for 59 Years
Sylvester Scholtz, 72 years of age, died suddenly at the home of his daughter Mrs. L. Caspery, 1012 Poland ave., at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon of heart trouble and infirmities. He was born at Poland, in 1842 (sic), son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Scholtz, and resided in that vicinity his entire life. He retired from active labor about two years ago after having been employed on the Samuel Gibson farm for 59 years, beginning his duties at that place when a boy of 13 years.
Mr. Scholtz was married in 1881 to Elizabeth Covert, who preceded him in death in Oct. 1919. Three children survive. Mrs. Richard Duke, Mrs. L. Caspery and Gail Scholtz, city. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Lucy Libert, Mrs. Sadie Gifford, Mrs. William Reff, Charles and Thomas Scholtz, Niles, and Samuel Scholtz of Poland. He was held in the highest regard and esteem, not only by his former employers, but by a vast legion of friends, both at Poland and in this city.
Funeral services will be held at the Caspery residence at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday, with burial in Belmont Park Cemetery.
