The Shultz Family of Darke County, Ohio

The Biography of Minnie Lucille Shultz Daughter of William Sherman Shultz and Whilemena "Lillie" Mae Petersime by Francis D. Motschman, Sr.

The third child to come into the lives of Sherman and Lillie Shultz was a girl born on Mon., August 13, 1894 in Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio. They named her Minnie Lucille Shultz. She was the first girl and it was everything she could do to not be a tomboy. She was pretty and sweet and was loved very much by all.

After she had become a beautiful young lady of seventeen years of age she married a 17 year old man by the name of Ranzie McNay. Ranzie was born in Ohio on Mon., March 12, 1894. I do not know what preempted the move but at some point in time she and Ranzie emigrated to Indianapolis, Indiana. Ranzie was a heating contractor and worked for a couple of Heating Companies for a number of years before opening his own Heating & Air Conditioning Company. This was very hard and dirty work in the old days of large wood and coal furnaces. He would come home exhausted she would do her best to make him comfortable.

Minnie had seven children with Ranzie: 1. Edgar McNay, b. Sun., January 21, 1912. He married Bathsheba Butler 2. Emerson McNay, b. Thu., July 24, 1913. He married 1. Epsie 2. Mary Elizabeth Stevenson 3. Estelle Fern 3. Eugene McNay, b. Fri., September 26, 1919. He married Mary Rebecca Gordon 4. Naomi Lucille McNay, b. Tue., January 30, 1923. She married Bennie Lee. Their big love was traveling. 5. Lillian Ruth McNay, b. Fri., January 29, 1926. She married Harry Kineer. 6. David McNay, b. Sun., May 11, 1930. He married Evelyn MacDaugh.

David was interested in and became quite good at flying sailplanes. I saw an article about him with pictures of him in his sail plane in National Geographic a number of years ago. He lives in California and to the best of my knowledge completed his working life selling large aircraft to foriegn governments.

7. Ranzie McNay, Jr., b. Sun., May 21, 1933 and died Sun., May 21, 1933.

In the years that she was raising the children she became deeply envolved with her church. She was a "Prayer" and whenever the minister got a call to visit a sick person he would call Minnie and she would go with him to see the sick person and Minnie would pray for them. Every one in the family was proud of her for what she was doing and everyone would pitch in and do as many of the chores as possible, that she would normally have had to do, to free up time for her missions.

On Wed., June 14, 1944 Minnie died as a result of a second stroke following a bad traffic accident she had experienced as the result of another stroke.
