Bertha Kathleen Shurrock was born on 31 December 1901 in Oxford in Oxfordshire. She was the daughter of Alfred Shurrock and Jessie Pearson. [1] [2]

Bertha emigrated to Australia on board the 'Naldera' which left London on 18 November 1927, destined for Adelaide. [4]
She married George William Dodson in Port Adelaide in 1927 [5]
George and Bertha returned to England, but made the same trip back to Adelaide on board the Ballaratt in 1931 [6]. They gave their address as 199, Cowley Road, Oxford, Bertha was age 29, and George was 66. George passed away in Adelaide in 1941.
Bertha returned to England at some point. She passed away in Abingdon in 1991, her date of birth was given as 31 December 1901. [2]
Probate was granted on Bertha's estate on 7 June 1991, her address was given as 15 St Helens Mews, East St Helen Street, Abingdon, she passed away on 2 March 1991, and left an estate valued at £129, 654. [7]

Thanks for this, I assume Bertha went out to stay with, or on recommendation of, her aunt. I see you have posted a daughter of George and Mary, is it certain they only had the one child? Is it possible that George junior was son of George Senior- in which case Bertha married her cousin? Thanks Tim
According to info that was put on her profile when it was created, she had 2 sons and 4 daughters and 2 other children who died young. She had had 4 of those children by 1871, including a George W., who might well be George junior. It looks as if he would have been about the right age.

I recall going down to the cellar (I don't think they had a fridge) and finding some yogurts which were months out of date- they obviously thought they were tinned goods.
After Jessie died, she went to live with her brother Leslie in his house in Abingdon (after his wife died). She continued to live there after his death.
