Biography

My mother was born in Lockhart, Texas ^[1] during the days of Pancho Villa's raids. She was born in the house of her grandparents at 415 San Antonio St., Lockhart. The first place she lived after her birth in her grandmother's house in Lockhart was Yorktown. It is announced in 1919 Jewish Journal. It was in World War I and the whole town was German speaking but had to stop because of strong anti-German sentiment. It was the most beautiful town she lived in. Other places in Texas where she lived include Breckenridge, Knox City, Haskell, Merkel. In the summers she would go to tent shows of the MYPU and the BYPU (Methodist and Baptist Young Peoples Union). In 1929 she and her mother moved in with Grossmutter when the last business went bust. "Siegel", as her father was called, was not allowed to visit, but he snuck in every night. Two years later, Grosspapa died. Mom lived there until she went to New Orleans to college. ^[2]
